The difference in everyday use
Both Auri and Gboard offer touch typing, swipe typing, autocorrection, and suggestions. Google calls swipe typing Glide Typing; it is the same way of entering words. Auri’s difference is what you can do next: dictate a finished message, ask a question, or get help with a task from the keyboard.
Choose Auri for speech that handles corrections, fillers, and lists, plus Ask Auri when you need an answer, a calendar check, or a draft based on your notes. Gboard’s familiar typing and translation tools may already cover your needs if those are the jobs you use a keyboard for.

The first dictation opens Auri to start a session. After that initial handoff, you can start and stop more dictations from the keyboard without leaving the app you are writing in while the session stays active.
Clean mode follows spoken self-corrections, removes filler words, and formats lists. Custom vocabulary helps Auri recognize the names and specialist terms you use.
Prefer on-device dictation? Choose the On-Device English engine to transcribe dictation on your iPhone or iPad. AI cleanup, writing tools, and Ask Auri are separate network features.

Some messages need an answer before they need words. Open Ask Auri in the keyboard to ask a question, search the web, check your calendar, or find a place—all from the app you are writing in.
Keep the conversation going with a follow-up. Attach a saved note or transcript for context, then insert the answer when it is ready. Calendar and reminder changes show a preview for you to confirm.

Auri scored 90.4 for touch against Gboard’s 89.9. Gboard got all 40 swipe paths right; Auri got 39. Auri’s larger lead was in this voice test, where Gboard’s first clip returned only its final word. These results describe this test set, not every conversation. Full results and methodology.

Tested versions: Gboard 2.3.19, build 444584732 and Auri 4.0. Auri’s touch results used its Siaru engine in a standalone test keyboard (revision 838fe4c); voice used the Auri app in Clean mode.
Limits: One phone, existing learned dictionaries, and one fixed-order series. Voice used 10 clean clips, 94 words, and two speakers. Gboard and SwiftKey language and swipe tests span two iOS builds. Touch and voice use separate scores; speed was not measured. The Auri team conducted the study and develops Auri.

Auri is available for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. Use the keyboard on iPhone and iPad, open Auri on Mac for conversations and saved work, and take your assistant with you on Apple Watch.
For dictation into other Mac apps, Auri Voice is a separate app with local speech engines. On iPhone and iPad, Auri also offers optional on-device English dictation.

A few useful answers
Are Glide Typing and swipe typing different?
No. Glide Typing is Google’s name for swipe typing: slide a finger through letters to enter a word. Both Auri and Gboard support this. Auri’s additional benefits here are cleaned-up dictation, writing tools, and Ask Auri.
Is Auri better than Gboard at swipe typing?
Not in our measured swipe test: Gboard recognized 40 of 40 paths and the Auri typing engine recognized 39. Auri’s touch total was slightly higher because it includes correction, completion, and prediction too.
Does this comparison cover Gboard on Android?
No. The benchmark ran the iPhone version of Gboard. Android and Pixel features can differ, so these results should not be applied to those keyboards.
Can I keep Gboard installed?
Yes. You can keep multiple iPhone keyboards enabled and switch using the globe key. Try the same messages in each before choosing your everyday keyboard.
